The Association for the Promotion of Women in Romania – APFR was formed in 1997 as a subsidiary of the IKON Foundation in Galati, whose activities consist in offering aids (clothes, food) to families with many children. APFR was established in 1999 with the specific purpose of providing the women in Timisoara and Timis county the services they need such as: social assistance and free representation in court, counseling, access to income generating programs and setting up a telephone line the crisis for girls and women victims of domestic violence and physical abuse.
APFR Mission is educating the whole society by promoting affirmative and non-discriminatory policies to increase the quality of women’s lives in Romania.

Asociatia pentru Promovarea Femeii din Romania – APFR s-a format in 1997 ca o filiala a Fundatiei IKON din Galati, ale carei activitati constau in oferirea de ajutoare (haine, alimente) familiilor cu multi copii. In aceasta perioada s-au observat alte nevoi specifice ale femeilor timisene, indicand directia in care a fost necesara actiunea. Astfel, in 1999 a fost infiintata APFR avand scopul specific de a asigura femeilor din Timisoara si din judetul Timis serviciile de care au nevoie precum: asistenta sociala si reprezentare gratuita in instanta, consiliere, acces la programe generatoare de venituri si infiintarea unei linii telefonice de criza pentru fetele si femeile victime ale violentei in familie si abuzului fizic.
